Community engagement project Cycle Engage UK launched its elite women’s cycling squad Team RGB Building Supplies in Cornwall on Friday.

RGB Building Supplies and The Room Works
Title sponsored by the South West’s leading builder’s merchants RGB Building Supplies the team is also supported by its sister company The Room Works.

With a squad of 8 women from the region, Team RGB Building Supplies provides a stable foundation for local amateur women to take their sport to the next level.

Led by paracyclist Tom Staniford and his wife Alice, the pair have partnered with Phil Mingo of PPA UK to develop a structure to promote and develop cycling in the South West. Cycle Engage UK works on two fronts to achieve this aim: working with local community initiatives to increase participation in cycling and healthy lifestyle choices, and developing and facilitating the growth of elite cycling in this region.

Where many teams judge the success of their season based on race results, Team RGB Building Supplies will judge their season a success based on how many more people they can get cycling regularly through their community activities. A number of exciting projects with South West stakeholders, organisations, charities and businesses are planned to get more bums on seats and capitalise on the region’s fantastic opportunities to cycle.

Team RGB Building Supplies will provide high-level racing opportunities to the regional cyclists on the squad, competing at an elite level in national road racing competitions including the National Women’s Road Series, The National Championships and the televised ITV Tour Series events.

The squad:
Jenny Bolsom, Exmouth
Jenny Corser, Teignmouth
Lucy Driver, Bridgwater
Susan Freeburn, Sevenoaks
Hannah Newsham, Taunton
Alice Staniford, Exeter
Heidi Viles, Taunton
Sophie Williams, Cwmbran
